It is often difficult to adjust to the emotional changes which occur as a result of bereavement. Family members are often able to help each other to adjust to these changes but, for various reasons, outside help is sometimes needed.
The funeral service, be it Christian, another Religion or even Humanist is another source of help for relatives to accept the bereavement, to 'let go' and to adapt to the future but, at the same time, not forgetting their relative who has died.

Grieving usually follows a very similar pattern. Firstly, admitting the fact of the death. Various feelings of anger, resentment and regret can follow, mixed with the question of 'why'. Finally has to come the acceptance, adjustment to the future and re-arrangement of relationships with other people and family members. These feelings can be intermixed and the time they take can vary considerably from one person to another. For some people an adjustment may be achieved in a matter of days, for others it can take years.

For various reasons, even in a very close family, help from an outside source may be an advantage. Arthur Gresty Ltd is able to offer a Counselling service through a unique relationship with the Trafford Centre of Marriage Care, which has the use of rooms at our head office in Trafford. Trafford Marriage Care
While Marriage Care has its origin in the Christian Church, its services are open and available to all. The organisation offers help to all experiencing difficulties in their relationships and it is best known for its 'remedial counselling' service. It also provides Marriage Preparation course for engaged couples and advice on natural family planning. All the Counsellors are professionally trained and supervised and are unpaid volunteers. The services offered are free, although a donation is appreciated to offset the administration costs.
There are three main occasions in most people's lives when relationships to other people and particularly family members change. These relate to Births, Marriages and Deaths. Very similar emotional changes occur at each of these events. A marriage involves the relationship between two families. A birth changes the relationship between the parents and any other children. A death means a considerable re-adjustment to many people. Similar changes occur if someone is suddenly made redundant or meets with a serious illness.

The help needed at each of these major life events is very similar, and so a marriage counsellor, with certain additional training, is an ideal person to help some one who is suffering the effects of bereavement.

Bereavement Counselling is, currently, a special service of theTrafford Centre for Marriage Care.
